Schools programme

Introduction

This programme of theatre workshops and projects has evolved and developed in partnership with schools over the past 12 years. The programme is focused around the creative exchange between performing artists and children or young people; therefore our schools work is always interactive. The aim of our workshops is to use drama as a method of learning. We ask children and young people to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of those characters in the play they are studying or topic they are learning about.

We believe this way they can gain further understanding of what it was like to have been that character and to have been faced with their dilemmas, decisions and lifestyles.

We need a large hall, which we can have access to for 20 minutes before the workshop begins and a CD player.  A teacher or other school representative must also be present for the duration of the workshop to assume control for emergency procedures E.G. Fire Drill.

New! Making Maths

This is a new workshop which has been developed alongside teachers with the aim of providing a creative approach to maths which is fun and encourages enthusiasm in maths learning from the children. The children will travel to Sums-on-Sea village where we find all is in disarray as the numbers in this village have become mixed up. By working with characters from the village, Farmer Times-Sign and Mrs Measure from the Post Office, the children will solve number problems and using their bodies will explore number bonds and simple addition and subtraction. They will apply values and coin combinations and learn to recombine the numbers so the village makes sense once again.
